Celebrate the veterinary technician in your cat’s life

When your feline goes to the veterinary hospital, possibilities are she’s going to spend much much more time with veterinary technicians or other veterinary personnel members than with the veterinarian. Veterinary technicians are informed in the most recent medical advances as well as skilled at working together with veterinarians to provide cats the finest medical care possible. They are an integral part of your cat’s medical team.

The national association of Veterinary Technicians in America, Inc. (NAVTA) has designated October 9 with 15 as National Veterinary Technician Week. “Celebrating national Veterinary Technician Week provides veterinary technicians the credit rating they deserve. It likewise offers an chance to instruct the public about what veterinary technicians do on a everyday basis,” states Sandy Sponaugle, NAVTA communications Director.

I think the term “technician” is a bit of a misnomer, as it conjures up somebody who works on technical devices or does useful work in a laboratory. It doesn’t take into account the much larger element of what veterinary technicians do, which is care for their furry patients. For that reason, I’ve always favored the term veterinary nurse, since it much more accurately shows what these unsung heroes of the veterinary occupation do day after day.

In addition to being skilled professionals, they’re likewise caring caregivers. They’re the ones who will sit with your feline after surgical treatment as well as make sure that she wakes up from anesthesia safely. They’re the ones who will keep your hospitalized feline comfortable. They’re the ones who treat your feline like she’s a member of their family, too.

So this week, honor the veterinary technicians who take care of your feline when she has to go to the veterinary hospital. As a former veterinary medical facility manager who likewise worked as a technician, I can tell you that brownies as well as other treats are always appreciated as a token of your gratitude…

YAY! What a dynamite publish as well as it is excellent to see those that do so much be acknowledged!
We adore our vet techs!
Thankfully Cody is the only one who ever had to spend the night however one of the Vet Techs told me when he was there that they called him the “Cuddle Bug”. They stated he only wished to be cuddled as well as they happily indulged him!
We are blessed that our Vet has such a fantastic team!

That’s so fantastic that the techs at your medical facility indulged Cody’s cuddle needs while he was there, Caren.

I utilize to like the term Veterinary nurse much better than Technician as well as while I agree that “technician” is not accurate, I’m not sure nurse is better. Human nurses don’t administer anesthesia, take radiographs, calcualte meds or run a labortory. I’ve been feeling like Veterinary Practicioner may be the very best term of what we Vet Techs really do!

Marilyn, I agree that nurse doesn’t accurately show whatever vet techs do, either. I’m presuming you’re believing along the lines of a nurse specialist in human medicine with your tip – that’s most likely much better than nurse, although it doesn’t address the care as well as issue part of what vet techs do so well.

I agree, technician seems like limiting term. Our vet, who composes our regular blog Q & A (and teaches vet techs) has the most fantastic tech/assistant who works at his mobile clinic. traveling around from place to place in center on wheels has its own challenges. When our feral was trapped this summertime it was Lisa, the vet tech who scrambled discovering innovative services to effectively catch our wild boy.

I can only envision that being a tech for a traveling vet brings its special challenges. It seems like Lisa understands exactly how to believe on her feet!
