Blue Merle excellent Dane

Last weekend I took care of Piper, my good friend Becky’s blue merle excellent dane.

I wished to show a photo of her since I had never seen a gray as well as black (blue merle) excellent dane before Piper.

Piper reminds me of exactly how a few of the American Kennel Club’s regulations are a bit ridiculous.

The AKC recognizes the excellent dane in the complying with colors: brindle, black-masked fawn, blue (solid gray), black, harlequin (white with random black patches) or mantle (black with white collar, muzzle, breast as well as tail tip).

Blue merle excellent danes like Piper are not accepted in the AKC. In other words, Piper is 100 percent excellent dane, like her parents as well as littermates, however since of her color, she is not recognized.

Some people don’t want to own a dog unless it is AKC registered. since of this, fewer people want to buy blue merle excellent danes, which means a breeder will have a harder time selling those puppies for as much as the others.

Still, it’s a surprise to me that, according to Piper’s breeder, some breeders kill the blue merle puppies soon after they’re born. These puppies may offer for $500 instead of $2,000, even though other than color, there is no difference between them as well as the other pups.

A litter of excellent dane pups might have a range of colors. Piper’s mother, for example, was harlequin, as well as so were a few of Piper’s siblings.

It seems unfair to judge a dog by its color, however what do I know? I own a mutt.
